I received two 2018-D Shield cents in change the other day and one of them stood out to me. The area around VDB and the lower bust in general is off in a way I have not quite seen before. I believe it is Die Deterioration, but it just looks weird to me. Let me know what you think!

The weird one:

2018-D-LSC:-Die-Deterioration?
2018-D-LSC:-Die-Deterioration?

The other "normal" one I got for comparison:

2018-D-LSC:-Die-Deterioration?

Closeups:

2018-D-LSC:-Die-Deterioration?
2018-D-LSC:-Die-Deterioration?
2018-D-LSC:-Die-Deterioration?
2018-D-LSC:-Die-Deterioration?
2018-D-LSC:-Die-Deterioration?
2018-D-LSC:-Die-Deterioration?
2018-D-LSC:-Die-Deterioration?
2018-D-LSC:-Die-Deterioration?
2018-D-LSC:-Die-Deterioration?

I'm sure it's nothing noteworthy, but I haven't seen this sort of isolated major deterioration.

You're correct. It's massive Die Deterioration, but it's very unusual and weird.

Oh Wow, DDD, shure looks like die floe towards the rims from a worn die!

OK - had to reply - BUT that's a GREAT example of die flow -

Mark, it's pretty extreme for a 2018 LSC. I've never seen Die Deterioration Doubling this bad before on a LSC.

Keep in mind the VDB is a raised device on the die. So it could be machine doubled by die movement:
2018-D-LSC:-Die-Deterioration?
Or like his coin that had die polishing altering the shape of those devices. (the die that struck this coin has its issues)
