Hello all. I found a strange dime while roll hunting. As you can see in the pics, the edges all the way around the REV are completely illegible, and the corners are rounded off. At first I though it was just PMD. But as I looked more closely, most of the details on the REV appear to be very weakly struck, and somewhat muddy around the edges. The OBV also seems to be more lightly struck, and the edges of the lettering seems to be smashed down or irregular as well. Could it be that the REV die was capped, and kept on striking more and more dimes until most of the cap coin's metal had gradually flowed to the edge of the die, leaving the middle partially cleared? Maybe I am dreaming, but I'd like to hear your thoughts.

It's not a Struck Through Late Stage Die Cap. This is 100 percent Post Strike Damage (happened after it left the U.S. Mint). It's a Dryer Coin.

Is this one of those Dryer Coins in keep hearing about? That's what it looks like to me. Got melted by something. EV is right though, this didn't happen at the mint and I'm pretty sure there isn't even a stage in the process that would make a coin turn out that way

To me it looks like someone was taking their frustrations out on the coin. Either way it is PSD. Still worth what it use to say on the reverse.

Thanks to everyone for chiming in. It is so easy to get overly imaginative when I find a coin that seems unusual. I am relatively new to the error varieties game, and wishful thinking has lead me on a few similar wild goose chases before. Thanks for taking the time to set me straight!
