My grandfather gave me this coin. The local coin shop was stumped. He said he saw no signs of a replica, but he wasn't very well informed on this coin. I can't find a seam on the edges as they are very worn and there is no R on either side. Any help or a direction to go with it would be appreciated.

@sheppard, first welcome to CCF. Second, we see these here with some frequency, and as far as I know, every single one has been a fake. Here is a link to a previous thread with more information about a similar piece:

The spots are different above the tree from that one. And the branches look different, but I know they are mostly fake. Just want to know without a doubt before I give my grandfather the news.

The New Hampshire copper is one of the most enigmatic early American coins. There is no hard evidence that any of the known coins are genuine. The originals were cast not struck and really only the written description of the coins when originally authorized is known for sure. The ones that are most often considered genuine coins have a different design than yours, so yours is definitely a fake.

It looks like a fake.

Just a note - It is doubtful that any real coins exist of this variety. All known examples are fakes.

Here's a link to more info about this variety: https://coins.nd.edu/ColCoin/FAQ/wm-nhpattern.html
