I came across this penny. Can anybody help me?are these a usual error or damages? On both sides there are lots of dots, also on letters and there are other mistakeslike tge T looks weird, the date I assume is 1984 but I can be wrong. It looks like extra metal, same material. Second, in addition to seeing some small plating bubbles, I see several areas where there is now a hole in the copper plating and the underlying zinc is starting to corrode. This is common and your coin can be safely spent. Errers and Varietys Bedrock of the Community United States 74456 Posts	Posted 06/06/2018 9:10 pm To CCF! This isn't an error. This is Post Strike Damage (happened after it left the U.S. Mint). It's Zinc Rot. It's caused by the Copper plating getting split. Once the Copper layer gets split, the Zinc core is exposed and will eventually rot into nothing.
