I'm guessing it's from Greece or Cyprus but that is pure speculation. I did a couple of searches and came up empty though. Someone that knows more than I will be along shortly.

Well, the legends are certainly Cyrillic, so Greek, Bulgarian, & Russian are all possibilities. You'd think with that odd denomination of 8 it'd be easy to identify. I'm actually inclined toward it being a token of some sort.

Is there any way to get a better picture of the letters on the back so someone could translate?

The legends are Greek. It's a token from the Greek island of Samos, just off the coast of Turkey. http://eshop.sillektiki.com/Product...Page/343/en/
I could make out ΣAMOY, which is "of Samos", so I googled "Samos token" and it popped right up.
