By club I mean- the group of people that have found new doubled die coins before anyone one else. My one goal since I started looking for die varieties was to find ONE doubled die obv or rev that hasn't been discovered or documented yet. I'm not talking about a article worthy/thousand dollar coin, just a legit DDO / DDR. I know some members of this Family have done it, and my question is how long were you collecting coins before you found a new doubled die? And if anyone has any tips, strategies, or advice for me that would be awesome! I'm sure the learning curve has changed a lot over the years, with the addition of websites like this. Without the patient advice from members of CCF, I imagine it would of taken me a decade to learn all the stuff I've learned over the last year posting pictures and asking repetitive questions. But I'm going to find one!! And I'm gonna tie my name to a DDO or DDR cent someday. Mitch

For me, it has taken 3 to 4 years to learn all of this. Your best bet is to look for minor reverse column DDR's on Lincoln Memorial Cents. A majority of them aren't listed, because people often throw them back into circulation, since it's minor.
Errers and Varietys.

Truman, I was lucky enough to get the attribution from Wexler for the 2015-DDO-006. I had gotten a box from a local bank and when I opened it and saw it was all new cents I set it aside for about a month before I started looking through them. I had searched a couple boxes of new 2015's and had not found much. The third cent I looked at was it. I found quiet a few in that box and made a sizeable profit selling some of them. In answer to your other questions I have been collecting coins for around 60 years off and on. I have been looking for varieties/errors for about 10 years. As far as learning all you need to know--you won't---. Just continue to read and learn from this forum as it is the best for E&V's

45 years. But,.... the coin sat in my safe 45 yrs before I began sorting it all out. I never would have found my first had I not bought a microscope. It has been attributed and is WDDO-01 for 1936 LWC. I have since found 11 1938S/S/S/S LWC in 3 rolls I bought 46 yrs ago for $1.75 ea. here's both.

I started collecting die varieties (doubled dies) either at the end of 2015 or the beginning of 2016. I started seriously collecting around April 2016 and I had my first new doubled die confirmed in October 2016. So, for me, it was 6-12 months. I am a very fast learner and I was able to devote a lot of time to researching what doubled dies look like.
I would recommend paying attention to new updates on doubleddie.com (There was an update this past week). On the home page, it says what new doubled dies and other varieties were just recently found. This has helped me a lot. Knowing what other people are finding helps me find my own. Look through the listings and try to learn what doubled dies look like and where doubling is typically seen on different types of coins (most are at the center of the coin).
If you really want to find a new unlisted doubled die, I would focus on more modern coins. There are a lot of doubled dies on coins dating from around 2000-present. Most are very minor but there are a handful of good ones here and there. The easiest kind of doubled dies to discover new examples of are the tiny doubled columns on Lincoln memorial cents from 1997-2008. They are very common but very minor and few people are interested in them, so new ones are easy to come by. If you are not interested in those look at listings for shield cents and try to learn what to look for, I've found a few new DDOs on those but they can be difficult to spot.
The 2016-P Harper's Ferry quarters have a lot of known doubled dies and I can guarantee there are lot more out there yet to be found. However, searching quarters can be expensive so starting with or staying with pennies may be better.

Truman: Like ramjet hero I've been going through rolls for right at 60 years on and off.. Unlike him I "think" I just found my first a bit over a week ago..
I mean I know it is undocumented as of that time but need to say 'think' because I haven't yet sent it off to Wexler for attribution.. Been waiting for new lighting to arrive, which it did yesterday, to get decent photos before posting it out.. Matter of fact I feel a bit strange even talking about it prior to verification, what with Murphy's Law & jinx factors n all.. So I won't.. It's been a realll lonnng wait for me.. Details upon certification..
As for tips, strategies etc. I have none -- other than to say stay at it.. I was simply going through a held back unc roll n there it was..

I've seen new ones post a doubled die on their first coin. Finding takes time. Especially for a new find. What it took for me was to think differently. IE: The 2004 DDR was able to be found on both mints. So I wondered, What about the other years around it? I wondered if anyone found a different year. So I look at every coin I found for a while. Then I found my new find. A 2002-D cent with a DDR on the EPU: I knew I found one when my eyes found. No doubt at all. I had it listed by a few different attributers: http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/...ie_state=mdshttp://doubleddie.com/839139.htmlQuote:
2002-D 1¢ WDDR-002 "Best Of" Variety Description: A nice spread to the west shows on the left side of EPU and the left dots. Die Markers: Obverse: A die gouge can be found south of the first 2 in the date. Reverse: A die gouge can be found to the left of the lower you in UNITED. A die gouge can be found to the left of the lower L in PLURIBUS. A die gouge can be found above the upper left dot. Die pitting can be found above the end of the left Memorial base. A die gouge can be found in the upper first bay. Submitted By: Richard Cooper Cross References: Coppercoins: 2002D-1DR-001
That was my first one. As far as I know only 5 examples have been reported to me. But I'm sure there are a lot more out there. Nobody that hasn't seen the attribution, know about them. Its a secret....

Well, I do think that I have a few unlisted doubled die's laying around. If you want, I can send you one, and you can have it listed if you would like? Although, I would have to figure out how to allow people here to send me a direct Email..

When I click his name, and click send user email, it tells me that he wishes to not receive emails. I changed mine though, so I can receive them, so if Truman1404 wants to send me his P.O. Box/ or address, just click my profile, go down to "send an Email".

Wish I had the coin in hand, but I don't because I am in the process of moving right now, but here is the one that I believed to be a new DDR. The ones that are in stars like this (* blablabla *) Are the ones I think look the closest, BUUUT... Mine has a different shape then them all. 2003 Philadelphia DDR ? The closest I can see to it being are the following. WDDR-004 WDDR-037 Variety Vista DDR- 007 VV DDR- 009 VV DDR- 017 (*VV DDR- 021*) (*VV DDR- 023*) (*Coppercoins 1DR-021 *) Hopefully someone could agree why I am having troubles with this one, and agree's it should be sent in. If not, don't let me waste this guys time please :D lol.. Here is the Cent! 2003 Philadelphia
