Hi all!!

I'm new here to the forum, and I need some assistance figuring out eight .999 1 oz silver Apollo coins that belonged to my dad. He was an avid coin collector, though he sold off most of them shortly before he passed away. These were located when cleaning out his house. Unfortunately, some have come completely out of their protective cases or partly, so they have some tarnish. I know nothing about coins, but I did read that it might not be prudent to attempt to clean them, so I haven't.

I have Googled as well as searching on ebay, and the only one I've found that matches these is the Apollo IX coin (currently up for sale for BIN for $6.50 tarnished). I have found many other styles for the other Apollo missions, but none like these. I don't know if these were purchased at separate times or part of a set. I also don't know if I'd be better off just selling them for the silver price or selling them as a collectible to Apollo fans or coin collectors.

Any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated! I hope the pictures are clear enough. I was trying to avoid glare, plus the two that are very tarnished were hard to get in detail.

My apologies if there was a more specific forum to post this. I read all the titles and descriptions, but I just wasn't sure. :)

Best,
Rene'

@halloweengal, first welcome to CCF. Second, rather than coins, these look like silver rounds to me. As such, they would only be worth a premium over melt only to an avid collector of space age items. Your dad may have bought these as a set from the Danbury Mint. I believe that they sold a series called "Men in Space".

I agree Spence....
They were bought for much more than the melt or selling value....

Thank you both for your comments! I suspected when they were still in my dad's house that they weren't worth selling. He had a HUGE coin collection that brought a lot of money, but some things were left out, and probably for the reasons mentioned here. I suspect he was going to keep them or have them melted down but didn't get to it before he passed away. Danbury Mint sounds really familiar and something I'm sure he mentioned.

Thank you so much!
