From wildwinds:
Severus II AE Quarter-Folles. 1.86g; 19mm. 305-306 AD. Siscia. FL VAL SEVERVS NOB C, laureate head right / GENIO POP-VLI ROMANI, Genius standing left, modius on head, naked except for chlamys over left shoulder, holding patera and cornucopiae. Mintmark SIS. RIC VI Siscia 170a, Cohen 32; Sear 14645.
Nice scarcer ruler! Severus II was the legal heir (Caesar) under Constantine's father, Constantius Chlorus. Since Constantine had proven himself an able ruler, the armies illegally granted him the title of Augustus upon his father's death. Constantine defused the situation by stepping down and accepting the title of Caesar. At the same time, the usurper Maxentius took Rome, and Severus was ordered to lay seige to the city. Maxentius called his father Maximian out of retirement, and Severus' armies mutinied and killed him.
