I don't know what happened to this coin, but I can not make out the date or hardy anything else. The most likely explanation I can think of is just a very weak strike. What do you think? Shown with another coin to show that the camera was not badly out of focus. Would a weak die strike be considered an error coin? Thanks to all.

Not a weak strike. A weak strike would not have fully formed rims and your coin does. Looks like maybe a major Struck Through Grease? Coop... John1

What is the weight? If it is normal (3.11 grams) then it's a Struck Through Grease error. If it is less, then altered, reduced by circulation or something else, then it was a normal coin at one time. So weight will tell the story.

I think it looks like acid damage

Interesting coin! Normally, damage from an acid bath causes the rims to be hit pretty hard. In this case, the rims are intact. I suppose, someone could have been very careful about only exposing the faces with acid and protected the rims. I agree with @coop that knowing the weight would be super-useful.

that the weight will tell if it's a Greaser or artificial wear .

It does look like it was dipped in acid at some point of its life. Although, the weight of the coin would be great.

I was hoping for another result, but the coin in question weighs in at 2.9 grams. I don't know how accurate my scale is, so I weighed two other wheat cents, both of which came in at 3.1 grams. That suggests missing material and acid damage.

Acid takes the rims, this is just wear apparently. Looks buffed and waxed at some point.
