We all know the Hunt borthers did it with silver. But has there ever been an attempt to corner the market on a series of coins?

I'm giving everyone fair warning, if I ever become filthy rich..........

You will never corner the market on those unless you talk Nohope into selling his entire collection. Same goes for Jefferson nickels with him.......

Doesn't coppernickeldaddy now have the most pre-1960 Jefferson nickels of anyone we know? He has >2500 of them and eventually will end up with >10,000.

I was getting ready to say the same thing, the only way you could ever corner the market on 2 cent coins is if you bought nohope's collection because I believe he already has most of the 2 centers locked up in his safe deposit box, atleast all the nice examples anyhow

I don't think anybody has ever tried to corner the market on an entire series, but several people have attempted to corner the market on certain key date coins. Of course, this could also backfire and cause the hoarder to lose a lot of money.
Rest in Peace

Coppernickeldaddy still has a ways to go. I have been going thru $100 to $200 of Jeffersons every week for over 5 years now. I bought a box of nickel tubes and dated them so I can sort my finds each week. Then as a tube fills I wrap it and mark it with the date and CIR. I reuse the boxes I get the nickels in to store the solid date rolls. I am now on my 6th box. 5 boxes is $500 face so I am already over 10,000 nickels and still going.

If you had the money you could corner the market on 1913 Liberty Head "V" Nickels. I think you could own 3 of the 5 with the right amount of cash. The ANA and Smithsonian coins I doubt you could get your hands on.
Rest in Peace

Its a nice start Coinzip. If its that kind of grade you want PM me when you get to 50 posts and I am sure I could find a couple of hundred to add to it... I gave up collecting anything below VF after I filled my 6th Ring Binder :-) Pick up Breens encyclopedia of US an colonial coins and Flynns book both have some good info on varieties for the beginner... I have found 312 die varieties of the 1864 alone to date.
Anyway enough chatting back offshore for a week or two...
