Hello All, this is Meow's first ever coin forum post.

This Kitty started collecting graded coins about two months ago.

Yesterday Meow bought Meow's first ever graded Morgan dollar. It was an anacs ms64 1884-o, and it is a beauty. It looks even better than a PCGS ms65.

Today Meow bought Meow's first ever graded Peace dollar. A anacs ms65 1923 $. It was also so beautiful, Meow admired it for hours. It looks just as good as a PCGS ms66s. So later today, Meow decided to look at it under a microscope camera. But then.....Meow discovered numerous errors in the coin and got a bad rumble in Meow's tummy. Now being the Newbie Kitten in coin collecting, Meow could be all wrong about the following thoughts that are going through this kitty's furry head.

So the obverse has at least two really big die cracks. And the reverse has two smaller ones, at least that is what Meow has found so far. So now this kitty is thinking that a coin with such numerous errors would be famous, and easy to find a reference for it online somewhere. But as far as Meow can find, there is nothing about a Peace dollar with so many die cracks in it. So Meow is afraid now that it is a fake, since it seems like such a poorly made coin, yet visually very stunning.

Now Meow could be totally wrong about this, so please forgive this Cat, if this is something about nothing.

Meow tried for the first time to upload images, but they where apparently to large in file size. So Meow could not seem to figure out how to use the site well enough to get around that. So Meow took new pictures at a lower resolution. Hopefully those will be good enough for all to see. And depending on the angle of the coin, some of the die cracks are not super obvious. Especially the ones on the back. But a far as this Kitty can tell, they are not scratches or indented lines. They are like thin strings laid on top the designs.

So could this newbie coin collecting Cat, Get some input from anyone that might know something about this coin? TIA.

Thank you. And Meow did look at that page too earlier today. But from what Meow has seen none of them have four or more decent sized die cracks. In fact some vams are just a little extra nick or a nub. This coin Meow bought is so much more extreme then all them. That's what makes Meow suspect it might be fake.

Thank You. Ten hours ago Meow was super excited about the coin, and what this Cat would buy next. But now, thinking that maybe even a graded coin might be fake; the excitement has total left, and now only anxiety exists.

1922, 23, & 24 Peace, Philadelphia mint, are easily found with numerous die cracks. Yours is not exceptional.

Genuine, no fear of it being a counterfeit.

Meow appreciates your input. Meow did look for hours to try and find an image of even one Peace dollar of any year that had that many cracks in it online anywhere. Would you know of an image of a coin that bad that Meow could see? From what Meow can see, Meow's coin has at least five die cracks in it.

Oh, Meow did find images of more than few coins that had a very similar crack at the front of the neck. They where even from a different year coin. BUT, even that coin seemed to have no other cracks like Meow's.
Rest in Peace

You can go to Heritage or Great Collection's sites and view thousands of great Peace photos that have sold at auction.

There are plenty of filters so you can narrow your searching more specifically.

Looked at well over a hundred auctions and various online pics. Found one coin with two similar cracks. Yet to find one with the long crack that goes from the back of her spiked crown to past the front of her forehead.

Since Meow is new at this, can someone explain why something like this is not a known or recorded VAM?
Another question would be, is this good or bad for the value of the coin?
Valuable because of the many errors, or less valued due it being considered damage; In the loss of eye appeal kinda way?

Thanks. But it did take this Cat hours to figure out how to do it. Getting this done today was like an obsession.

First off, cracks are NOT errors. They are products of a deteriorating die, one about ready to be changed out. As Mox stated, cracks are common. What may be unusual is to have a high grade coin as yours, showing great detail for a 66 grade and yet not affect the outcome. Think of it as unique. It is unknown how many preceded it or came after even, many were produced and succumb to circulating wear, or just bum strikes to begin with.

Thanks for your input. By the way the Peace dollar in question is an anacs ms65. But to Meow, it looks as nice as some PCGS ms66s Meow has seen looking around the internet for Meows very first Peace dollar purchase. Very pretty!

Meow could not find a coin like it for a even slightly affordable price, as it has no major nicks, or noticeable detracting ones. And Hmmmm, Meow is finding talking about coins in a forum very enjoyable.

I am thinking die damage, but not die cracks.
Is there a variety listed for this in the numismatic literature?
