Not an expert but based on what others have shown here, I'm guessing it's fake. Coins like this with bears on the reverse are usually called out as fakes.

Believe it is a Modern Replica. From what I understand, if it has a bear on the reverse, it is a modern replica, possibly gold plated. Here is a photo of a known replica that is the same. (The holder is obscuring the bottom of the coin)

Usually when they have a bear on them it's the 1/2. So I don't know about the 1/4. Except the bear on this one looks too good - mostly, on the 1/2, they don't look too much like a bear. Let others chime in

All Cal fractionals with a bear on them are fakes.

This one is fake due to the bear on the reverse.

Like the Velveteen Rabbit, what is real....
This is a real souvenir token. If you're lucky it might contain gold, but is probably gold plated base metal.
The tip-offs are the Indian head, the lack of the word dollar, and the bear. The government got stringent in regulating these in the 1880's.

thanx y'all, I figured it was real but these little coins are seldom seen in Canada so I figured I should check with the experts here.

It's a fake coin. I can tell by looking at it.
Errers and Varietys.
