I've never had one of these so I got this one recently and I'm not sure what I bought, I think it's a LC-60E2 or LC-60E3. Weight is 5 grams, die axis is coinage, edge is plain and diameter is 27.5. My older token book say's these imitation tokens are inferior to the real ones. Can anyone tell me a grade? How do you definitively determine if it's brass or copper? Appreciate any help, Cheers, Bill

Very well struck for an imitation. XF40-45, possible AU if not for the touch of corrosion of the obverse.

Color looks copper. I think it would slide in at a 40 without details. That tiny bit of pitting might make it through.

I appreciate and respect both replies. moxking I have to agree it looks the same to me as many of my Victorian cents as far as Color. It may just be wishful thinking but that's why I asked for a grade also as I believe copper is softer then brass and would therefore result in a better strike. My token book only refers to the copper examples as very rare giving no values. Thanks guys.

All of those that I have seen are the same copper/bronze color. I just don't think that there was enough pressure in the preses that were making these.

So can I take it that I'm correct with LC-60 either E2 or E3? I don't want to mark the holder incorrectly. TIA
Cheers, Bill

Charlton's LC-60 E2 / Courteau variety 15 / Rarity factor of 1. Courteau varieties 14, 15, 16, and 17 are combined under Charlton's umbrella of LC-60E2. Now work on getting the other three.
