Been looking for this at the right price for a long time. This is a bright and beautiful note in hand and bears the less-common signature combination of Rosecrans/Nebeker. George Thomas, nicknamed the "Rock of Chickamauga", was an important Civil War general who fought in the shadows of the more controversial figures of Grant and Sherman. His successful, and even brilliant, campaigns included Chickamauga, Chattanooga and Nashville. Edited by Coinfrog 06/22/2018 8:37 pm

Super note Mr.Frog. The scroll work on the borders, front and rear, and the stout portrait makes this one of my favorites.

Very Nice! Not very many of those in "65" floating around, I'd venture to say.

Thanks for the nice comments. Like many $2, $5, $10 and $20 notes from this era (c. 1880 - 1898, before print totals skyrocketed), enough short MS runs were saved to keep brand new notes within reach even today. When I shifted most of my money into currency some years ago, I vowed to do the opposite of what I'd done with coins over a long life. There would be no more upgrading (often at a loss); I would set a target grade to start with and wait for the opportunity, as in this case. I've tried to stick with this for my principal type set and it has worked well. But don't ask me about my ebay flips, please.

Some notes have drastically different eye appeal from grade to grade, and knowing what note and grade parameters gives you a great start with researching trends and makes for a smart buyer/collector.

My personal floor is 45PQ, and given the open spaces in my type albums, I'll run out of money long before I run out of notes to buy in that range!

Yes, most XF*PQ notes can be bought well below CH-CU prices and have great bang-for-the-buck.
