I found a quarter with what appears as doubling or md on the er in quarter and ar in dollar. Any help would be appreciated. I'm ordering something to take better quality pics, and so I apologize. Thanks for your help.

I can't tell with those pictures. Some of the people here might be able to. They amaze me sometimes.

SilverDollar2017, This is where I get totally confused. On this quarter the errors dont make the letter bigger, and it has shelving. I'm still so confused to MD and DD. Ones I thought were nothing, people said were dd. Ones I thought were md were in fact dd. I'm never gonna get it until I get one that is as clear as the nose on my face like the 1955 DDO LMC.

It's Machine Doubling, since the devices are reduced in size, and it's shelflike in appearance.

And also enlarged because of Grease Fill on the die.

Can you tell a difference between these two reverses?

COOP, are you asking me? If so yes, becuase the device on the doubled are really thick compared to the normal.

Did you note the lines down the off center part of the devices? That is how much spread this has compared with a normal die. This has nothing to do with the striking of the coin, the doubling is on the die. Each reverse will look just like this one with the reverse that is doubled.
