I was helping my dad look through some pennies he has and I found this coin with a big gouge out of it. It does not look like it was done after mint. Any help/information is appreciated.

It might be a struck through or lamination - we need to see closeups please.

It would also really help to see a photo of the reverse.

Thank you coincentslady. This is my first post and is all new to me. The coin is with my dad so I will have to get it and take more pictures. Those pictures were done with my phone so I am not sure how I am going to get any closer. I have blown one up to see if that helps.

Coin Community Forum (CCF) that's us :)

Thanks for the closeups. Can you also post a full view image of the back of the coin for us?

Hey members: Is it also a DDO?

No. The devices look wider because of coin wear. The circulation wear takes off the thinnest part of the devices. (The tops of the devices) The reverse looks normal? No bulge coming out the back? (the reason I ask is that the rim also looks altered in the same area on the obverse.

I did look at the back to see if there was a bulge and there was not. I will ask my dad to send me the penny and I will take more pictures of front, back and side near the "God We" is. Thank you everyone for all of your help.
