Good day to all.

I wanted to make this D something special like over a d over S because of the S shaped part north of the D and the internal action but it probably is just a die break or gouge. Always fun to find and ponder.

With all the marks around the mint mark, it looked like someone was already trying to alter this coin? Pretty much melt at this point.

What ever it "was" it's just damage now. Melt value.

It's Post Strike Damage (happened after it left the U.S. Mint). You can see the pushed over and flattened metal in that area. Now, it's only worth melt value.

I can see why you would ask, but it's damage.
