A friend of mine who's a great traveler brought around a surprise yesterday!

He's one of those guys who empties his pockets and tosses his loose change into a tin - keeping just one coin and one banknote from each country he visits!

He's now given me his spare change to sort through!

A-Hoard-To-Sort-Through

This is going to be fun!

Gee, with folks who post from the "other side of the pond," I figure a title like that means you've stumbled across something a bit older while digging in the garden

Looks like there's a bright shiny Indonesian eagle in there, and maybe even George Washington?

Have fun!

At last I've done it - it took me ages, but the coins are now sorted into countries, catalogued and ready to go into my albums!

I had a staggering 102 additions to my collection!

A-Hoard-To-Sort-Through

As expected, all were fairly recent, with no silver and nothing earlier than about 1950. There were quite a lot of pre-Euro coins from Western Europe, but the interesting ones for me were from Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa, like these:

A-Hoard-To-Sort-Through

Georgia 1 Lari; Tanzania 100 shillings; Azerbijan 10 and 20 qapik (now, that would be a great word in Scrabble!) and Lebanon 250 livres.

There were nice batches of recent dated coins from Poland, Kenya, India, Botswana, Bosnia and Tunisia.

Nothing much from the USA apart from a handful of LMCs and recent nickels and dimes, and, bizarrely, a 2000P Sacagawea dollar. I've checked it and it's not a Cheerios one!

So, thanks Joe - I owe you a drink!
