So far, I could figure out that from the date on the reverse (October 30, 1697) that it has something to do with The Peace of Rijswijk which took place that time. Anything beyond that would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you Petrus for the valuable information.
I was planning on buying it, but unfortunately somebody else was also going for this one and was faster than I was. :( Nonetheless thanks for teaching me something new!

I can add a bit to Petrus's great information:

It's a two part legend in Early Modern High German with the center in Latin;

"Weil frid un ruh sich zu uns kehren / ietz kan sich fried und lust vermehren"

My guess as to the MHG, "Weil Friede und Ruh sich zu Uns kehren, jetzt kann sich Freid und Lust vermehren."

(Pretty optimistic considering that Europe was nearly constantly at war with itself during this time, and for two hundred years after.)

The Latin in the center: ANN. SAL MDCXCVIII D 30. OCTOBR. PAX ORBI EUROP. RESTIT.

Latin is not my strong suit but a loose translation would be along the lines of "In the year of Salvation 1697 on the 30th of October world peace was restored in/to Europe."

Note the use of ANNO SALUTIS instead of ANNO DOMINI, which was not commonly in use until the 18th c.

This particular piece is attested as far back as c.1750 in German catalogs of jetons and medals, meaning the 1697 date is probably fairly accurate.
