I don't have the VAM Book- its listed on Pg 106- if someone has this book could they please post a picture of the difference between a D1 Reverse, 17 BERRY Shallow Olive Branch below Eagles Rt claws, versus a D-2 Reverse, 16 Berry full Olive Branch below Eagles right claws

I'm trying to pin down a 1921P Morgan- if its 16 or 17 berries-and its difficult trying to physically count them.
Thanks,
Chuck.

Chuck, it's really quite easy to tell. Under the upper most leaf cluster on the right side, as you look at the coin, only one berry=D2 two berries=D1.

Thanks!

Also got it from the VAM World site- under the definitions page.

I missed the initial berry on the left in the upper most leaf cluster and ended up mis-counting the berries- I thought is was a 16 Berry when it was really a 17 Berry.

This was on the coin I had sent to Mr Van Allen (I posted in a different thread thinking it was closer to a Vam3AB)-

He determined it was a VAM 1G which really had me a bit confused trying to figure out how a 16 Berry Morgan could be a 17 Berry VAM?

That's because it is a 17 Berry. Somehow under 5 x Mag, I missed that smaller berry on the left side- it looked more like a bump on the leaf instead of an actual berry until I magnified it to 15X and realized it was a berry!

Needless to say- My Morgan is not new VAM, but at least I have a letter from Mr Van Allen with the correct VAM attribution! :)
