I also feel it is the more likely scenario, unless there was a coin shop or coin show within walking distance of the spot where they were found.

I just think it's great that they found a collectors hands. Helps pay for all the stupid stuff we did when we were (are) learning.

As an aside: your step-son was smart enough to know they were silver dimes, but only asked for face value.
