Adam_E Pillar of the Community United States 4846 Posts	Posted 07/05/2018 11:55 pm This is a form of die wear called "ghosting". it's due to the obverse die imparting force onto the reverse die(and vice-versa) through the coins, over time creating a faint ghost of the dies onto eachother. since the fields are the highest point of the die, you'll only really ever see it transition onto the fields. It's similar(but distinctly different) to a die clash. This is caused by extreme die wear ( Die Deterioration), and it's common on the Lincoln Wheat Cents.
