I started going through my pile of shields I separated from a bank box and came across this. I almost didn't notice it until I turned it at an angle and then noticed a big chunk of the top of his head is missing. Def don't think it's PMD. The copper plating is still entact and no noticable contact marks in the area. It's incused so I'm thinking possibly a grease strike through. Would love some opinions or info on what it may be or if someone knows exactly what cause it. Haven't come across one of these yet. Thanks in advance

Looks like it's struck through.
Hard to say from what though.
Don't think it was grease as it has a
straight edge which you don't normally
see on a Greaser

Yeah, it's def a wierd one. I thought grease because the die is obviously a negative incuse image of Abe and maybe a little grease got trapped in the design of the hair and kind of just got stuck in that little spot.

Probably a Klingon with grease grit mixed into the glob. Interesting, but probably not a premium for the coin. More oh a struck through error for 'Ripley's believe it or not.'

Great things to save to show new collectors what happened and that there is no premium for this. But knowing what it is helps them to understand a bot more about coins.
