Need Advice On How To Repair Tears On Old Bills

puzzleeagle New Member United States 1 Posts	Posted 07/12/2018 12:31 pm Hello, I just recently got into collecting banknotes and have come across some pretty old bills for my collection. Unfortunately several of them have some pretty serious tears, one going almost 1/2 the way across the middle and can only be handled with extreme care. I already tried searching the site for other topics regarding repairing bills but just keep seeing that it's not recommended at all because it reduces the value. But it's not a really valuable collection and I'd like to be able to take it out and handle it regularly without fear of the tears getting worse. Is there a special kind of ultrathin tape I can use that can hold these bills together? Or some other method? Thanks in advance. Report this Post to the Staff

Once you get them in the currency sleeve they will be protected from further damage caused by handling. All paper is very fragile and the less you handle it the better off the notes will be. BadDog Pillar of the Community United States 1375 Posts	Posted 07/12/2018 2:40 pm For damaged notes like you're talking about, IMHO you want to get the fold over type of mylar sleeve (closed on the bottom, open on the sides, fold over flap at the top) rather than the insertion (closed on the bottom and sides, open at the top) type of currency sleeve. It's much easier to insert the note into a fold over sleeve without causing any further damage. Report this Post to the Staff
