https://www.ebay.com/itm/LOT-of-4-A...292636545857The Septimius Severus is a nice one, but the rest are rather ho-hum. $80-100 seems reasonable, but bidding is at $280 and counting? From a seller with 97% feedback? I'm not saying the coins are fake - they look OK to me (without looking them up) but I am just not seeing how the coins got that high.

I agree the bidding is high, but on average I can see these coins selling from $35-$40 each.

Quote: I can see these coins selling from $35-$40 each. Agreed maybe a little less if you're lucky. But in a lot bulked together like this, they should run even less than that.

Even though I don;t know ancients, I had to check it out Quote: If you check the bidders , it is clear it is a fake bidding. I usually reach this conclusion when I see one of the bidders does most of their business with the same seller. I do not see that here. Maybe just two bidders who really want the lot? And have each agreed to loosen their wallets (or, based on their low feedback scores, are maybe new and less aware of the market than the experts here?)

Honestly, as an ebay seller I block so many countries. The reason I mention that is you get countries like India (wonderful people, I mean no disrespect) who bid way over the price of items. Then when they "never arrive" ebay and PayPal always sides with the buyer and you have the money frozen from your account and the person might have actually got the coins and get their money back. So if you see crazy bidding of course it might be a bidding fever etc. But sadly a lot of the time it is people taking advantage of the combination of shipping that does not track well and the guarantee that sides with buyers.

Especially surprising in light of multiple buyers claiming the coins received are fakes and another noting that although the seller is registered in the UK, the coins actually ship from Bulgaria.

@KS, I have purchased from the seller a while ago; mostly late bronzes when I spotted a scarce type in a group. The coins did indeed come from Bulgaria. Thankfully, the ones I bought were fine (only had $1-2 in each anyway), but I recall browsing his other coins and being completely puzzled how a seller who mostly peddles low grade fodder also has such rarities as Mark Antony, Pertinax, etc. I strongly suspect that many of his silvers were fakes. Even now, he has a lot of very scarce to rare coins, several of which are highly suspect.
For the lot, it ended selling at $285. The Severus I would maybe pay $50 for from a trustworthy seller, the rest IMO are $20-30 coins--common with mushy strikes, flan problems, and wear.

Consistent with what you are saying, I did notice that the seller who gave 3 negatives in the last few months for fake coins also gave very positive feedback on some other purchases.
