I am a seller who works on a very very small profit margin. Since ebay has installed the new "no negative feedback for buyers" policy. I have received numerous unpaid items and I can't do anything about it. Some of the buyers even threaten they will leave negative feedback if I force and unpaid item strike on them. I am losing a lot in fees from this issue because ebay only credits Insertion fees when relisting an item unless you are a PowerSeller.

Has anyone else out there experienced this problem and is there a way around this?

I think you can see that the feedback system is just a joke now. Use the unpaid item strike. Keep all correspondence from the buyer leading up to the strike to present as evidence in case they do leave negative feedback, and make it clear to the buyer that you will be forwarding their threats on to ebay, with a gentle reminder they can be NARUed for that kind of blackmail.

If the winning bidder doesn't pay, can't you just make a second chance offer to the next highest bidder? I've bought things this way on more than one occasion.

"I have received numerous unpaid items"

Did you ship before they paid--or after? It seems the item is only "unpaid" if they received the item without compensation.

Then again, I agree that ebay is a bit of a mess--where disputes are best addressed within their own channels. It's only worth talking about here if somebody is actually involved in frauds--and collectors need a warning (IMO).

What does an unpaid item strike even do? Is it a three strikes and your out type of thing?

No, what I mean by unpaid is a bidder wins one of my items and then has no intention of paying for it knowing I cannot leave negative feedback. I understand the second chance offers but most people have already bought or bid on something else.

I am also a dealer. I report "unpaid items", block the buyer and relist the item.
My experience is that in general buyers are honest. Thou I currently have 1902 Chilean 50 Centavos which I relist 6 times. 6 times it was bought by different buyers from Chile with Zero feedback and was unpaid

The number of unpaid items on my auctions has increased...buyers are doing things with basically no reprocussion and ultimately it is costing me money.

From my recent experience ebay do nothing about threats of negative feedback. They are always on the buyers side.

Yes this is one of the huge flaws with ebay's new feedback rules, so that's why I have stopped selling altogether and shut my store down. I guess your only option to avoid this scenario is one of two ways:

1) Make your opening bid and buy it now one in the same, and make it one of those auctions where they have to pay immediately with Paypal to close it out. That way if someone really wants an item you have, they have to pay for on the spot and if they dont the listing stays up until someone does.

2) Open a store with a fixed price listing format (no bidding or auction format) and the price you put on there is the buy price. Again do the option where immediate payment is required.

There are downsides to doing this including having higher listing fees due to the higher prices you may have to set, fees from using Buy It Now, fees if you open a store, and finally you may "leave money on the table" if you set your buy price too low. But if you are seeing alot of non paying activity then these small inconviences may outweigh what you have to deal with now.
