Is weight alone sufficient in indentifying the rare 1977 d Kennedy half dollar? I have two. One weighs 11.4 grams and the other a solid 12. Is this possible?

It doesn't sound like you are guessing, Chase.

Always great to have that handy reference.

Made me laugh. But since this forum does not do politics, I will not go there...
In any event, it would seem that the OP is suggesting a leftover silver planchet was used in 1977.
TTBOMK silver was not minted in Denver in '76 only in SF.
Never mind that. PCGS has certified a silver plachet from Denver. It is ringing a bell that the planchets were all prepared and shipped from Philly maybe?
Being out of tolerance for a CN clad half may be strange, but the answer would hardly be a silver planchet, since it is out of tolerance for that as well. (It is also too light to be a 90%)
So what are we left with? Possibly a thick stock? Coin with junk on it? (We haven't seen pictures)

OPs question was "is weight sufficient to determine... ", no, it is NOT the sole determining factor. What does the edge look like? Wafered or solid silver? Is the outer material silver or cupronickel? tissue test may determine this. Then drop test even, sound silver or thunk like normal? Not any one method will tell definitively. Learning about all these things I mentioned is really predicate to reading a cherrypackers wishbook and searching for unicorns.
