Hello, My name is Tegan. I began collecting around two years ago and am still a novice. I recently acquired a 1796 Liberty Coin. It appears to be silver based on my tests (magnet, cloth, ice). It appears to be a small date and small letters. It's diameter is 39.5mm. It's weight, ahhh the weight, the one element not matching, making me question it's authenticity, is 24.98g. It's 2 grams off. Any Thoughts? If real, she has some value, and I'm looking for a place to grade and a place to auction the coin that I can trust. I would appreciate any feedback. Photos are uploaded. Thank you for your time. ~Tegan~ *** Moved by Staff moved to a more appropriate forum. ***

Tegan, you may want to try re-posting to the "U.S. Classic and Colonial Coin" section. Once you do so, you can delete this post. If you think you have a very rare coin, you should be careful on how you test it, though. I doubt this coin is authentic, but I'm far from an expert. Welcome to CCF.

First off to the funny farm! Got any Nuts? Secondly, that coin appears to be a cast fake. Look at the denticles. front curls and stars on these side by sides with your coin, too many discrepancies to , ah, sic, ring true! Yours straightened up: Obverse: Reverse: Ohh, and as for selling, you have a lot of competition from the Chinese, for around $7.95, shipping included from Shanghai...

These horrible fakes are creating a lot of headaches for potential collectors.
Fortunately, they are so bad we can easily identify them.
