Excellent photos. The gazillion tiny marks and scratches appear to go through both the fields and the design elements. But there are a few areas in the fields alone which could be die polishing. Crazy or Coop should give a more definitive answer. My dog says "bark"

I think it's grease, worn dies would usually affect the area towards the rim first rather than the center.

Meow found another one just like it today. Is this significant enough to want to keep?

In my opinion, I would say yes, as long as it's like the one you posted.

Yes it is exactly like the first one. Two more things to add to the Cat hoard!

Grease or oil with grit altered the fields.

Quote: Grease or oil with grit altered the fields. It affects the design a bit too. Its hard to see but, some of Washington and the rock near it on the reverse is a bit muddy too.

If it didn't block out the devices, it maybe oil with grit in it. If the distortion is raised on the devices as small grains, that maybe what it is.

So Meow looked at them again, as notice the second one Meow found is more affected by the grease than the first.
