Here are a few questionable pennies I found the other day in my ole penny bag. Any thoughts or info on these would be valued... The side rim on the 1956 is copper colored. (Worn off from curculation?)

The 1956 is definitely damaged. It may have been plated and the plating has worn off on places such as the rim.

On the 1997, is the obverse rim copper-colored all the way around, or does it change color like the fields?

Hi.. I looked again at both coins to be sure.
The 1956 has some scuffing but still has intermittent silver all the way around the rim.
The 1997d has no sign that the silver tone ever touched the rim... What you see is what you get!

Thanks for your time and info!
Rest in Peace

Certainly could be plated, but just a reminder that a different high school science project was to coat a copper cent with Mercury. I might handle the '56 with gloves.

All Lincoln Cents are considered Modern by CCF, so I moved your post to the appropriate section for the proper attention.

The first coin is just damage. The second coin is questionable, as only one side is missing Copper plating partially.

I'd say the 1956 is plated, the 1997 d is possibly a partially plated planchet.

Thanks everyone for your valued info!!

After a closer look at the 1997d is there a possibility that this coin has doubling on the ear lobe?

Stick with the partial plated planchet issue. The ear is not doubled, it is contact mark making an indent there. On a doubled ear, the ear ear is enlarged:

The lower area of the ear is enlarged. It reminds me of the State I live in SW border. Look for that, rather than the often damaged tip of the ear. Also the DDO is on a Philly cent not a Denver one.
