Hello. I just replaced this coin with a higher grade version. But I was wondering what grade should be assigned to this coin. Opinions please! TIA!

Obverse: It has had some moisture between the coin, and whatever surface it has been resting on. Some minor parallel scratches can also be seen.
The image of George V1 on T.H. Paget obverses of British Commonwealth countries is reasonably shallow, in order to prevent 'ghosting' on the reverse. One of the consequences is that hair detail above ear often less distinct than excellent, except for proof coins. High points of King's image are large areas.
Reverse: High points of design on reverse are many and are small, and together, protect the design from apparent wear.
Typical in this case. The reverse shows up much sharper.

Wondering if an acetone soak would help any with the obverse? John1

Thanks for the grade and the info! I will give it a soak and see what happens! If it makes the coin look better, I'll post a photo.

the coin looks VF with some light hairlines from an old wipe or something but those can be forgiven considering the grade. soak it in pure acetone if you have some, but if you don't, it isn't really worth going out of your way to buy it as the coins usually sell (around here anyway) for around their met value plus a dollar or two.

I noted the scratches, then graded too high. Me:

Leaning toward VF details, but best to wait for conservation results.

Well I soaked the coin in acetone and within a couple of minutes much of the residue was gone. Just a little left on the high spots. I think I'll soak it overnight and see what happens.

Soaked it for a couple of hours, but no more improvement. Acetone evaporates so quickly that I don't think an overnight soak is possible. Maybe in an airtight container.

Okay. Soaked it for about four hours but not much improvement.

Now that I look at the images beside each other, there is some improvement. I will try to soak it for a couple of days if I can find an airtight container.
