The 2001-2003 had the larger devices on the obverse die.Even a DDO-001 is harder to spot. 2001 DDO-001 (Not the Denver coin, but Philly) Shown to show how large the devices are on the normal coin compared with a DDO:

It's neither It's not a Doubled Die Obverse or a Doubled Die Reverse. You have a normal coin that's worth face value.

Just out of curiosity what is the large notch that is on the corner of the two? Because it says notching with the doubled dies, and that looks like pretty strong notching to me. It's funny. To me that coin looks more like a doubled die the actual doubled die does

You dug up a way old post to rehash this? The OP's coin was determined to be a normal coin.

@merClover I must say I'm a little put off bye your cold/ rude response. I was under the impression that this was a site where people can come to get help and advise about coins but I guess I was wrong. First, I did not dig this post up just to comment on this. I Googled the same year penny and this came up at the top of the search. I did not see the date. Second, I'm aware that it was said that a normal coin. I was simply asking if someone could explain to me what caused the notching on there that way I could have a better understanding and learn a little more. But I apologize for asking

CentfromHeaven, You go right ahead and ask as many questions as you feel the need to ask. On the 2,looks like a damaged die, maybe. I'm sure coop can tell you more in detail. John1

The gray area NW of the 2 is called split plating. The strike broke though the plating. The time bock has already started the count down now.

Centfromheaven, thanks for bringing up this thread since I hadn't seen it previously and I was curious as well about the notching on the 2. Two things that come to mind. 1)The dies were made with the "single squeeze" method beginning in 1999. So, strong conventional "notching" for a doubled die, like on the 2, isn't likely and... 2)As prominent as the "notch", for lack of a better term, is on the 2, more notching should be evident on other corners of letters & devices as well. This makes me wonder if it could be a unique Grease Filled Die on this corner of the 2 causing this? ps. In the OP's first image, there does seem to be a short die crack close to the "notch" in a NE direction but Die Deterioration usually makes raised devices larger not smaller doesn't it?
