Here's a comparison from coins SOLD on TV compared with coins with buy it now prices on ebay at the time the TV guys were hocking their items. Most of these are modern, but there are a few classic coins, but this seemed the most appropriate category to post. I don't know what the TV guys charge for shipping, so I didn't include it in their price, but did include ebay seller shipping fees, so TV guys prices are actually higher than tabulated. These were taken from 2 or more different TV guys. The "seller states" column is what the TV guys had the guts to say, some is just pathetic. Edited by jimbucks 07/28/2018 12:23 am

It's pretty sad what TV sellers can do to manipulate you into buying their coins for a huge profit.
Errers and Varietys.

Some of those are more reasonable markups then others. ebay prices on a lot of those things are usually a race to the bottom. Tv has air time and production costs that have to be included and some of the channels take a percentage of the sales price as well which would also need to be factored in. The per item profits is very likely a lot less on a lot of those than people think especially because the inventory costed money as well. Some of them are a lot worse than others about what they say to try and get sales but there actually are mail order catelogs that really are generally more expensive. There are also a lot of half truths though like implying or saying the ANACS coins are worth as much as a PCGS or even an NGC. The big one most people think of used to be a lot more interesting with what they offered in the past too. There used to be a good mix of products and even some interesting ones you may have missed but seems like it's turned into the ASE and junk silver show which could not be more boring to watch.

Prices look typical. Good rule of thumb is whatever the TV is selling it for is roughly twice retail. That holds pretty true for most of those.

Quote: Some of those are more reasonable markups then others. The sad part is, that these prices I listed are not set prices, but what suckers viewers supposed bid on them (but I wouldn't be surprised if there were shills). I was unbiased and fair and did an apples to apples comparison, and none of the TV coins were CAC so they were likely by no means "premium" quality. My point is that people are ignorant to bid up these items when all they have to do is go to ebay and buy the same thing for a lot less. I wonder what the return rate of the overpriced coins is.

Correction. Most of the prices on my list were from TV auctions. Some of them were fixed. The data was from more than 1 TV coin show.

Worthless information, any one can pick prices from anywhere.. real prices are determined between an educated buyer and a educated seller,, period..

Must be the Coin Vault. Every coin they sell, they always trot out, we got some comparison pricing from the nation's leading catalog, lol. I can only guess they are using Littleton Coin list prices as their comparables. Kinda like when Rick Tomaska uses ebay listing prices as sales comps, lol. No appraiser uses sales listings, its closed sales Rick

Gilligan's Island was the original reality show. The ones trying to pass as reality shows today are probably more heavily scripted.
