Good morning friends. (Or afternoon, depending on where you live.) So, I have some really nice looking 1964 Kennedy half dollars. Or so I thought. They are not scratched up at all, however, one of them has this wierd looking white stuff that I haven't seen before. At first, I thought it was scraped off or something. The next one has these odd smudge like marks on it. They looked like they were in exceptional condition, however, at 10x magnification, they look horrible. :( Any idea what it is and if I can or should bother doing anything about it? I already soaked them in acetone, hoping to remove any residue that was on them. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

It almost looks like mold, but acetone should have removed that.
The 1964 Kennedy is a very common coin. In order for one to be worth more than silver value it needs to be in a higher grade mint state.
With your example the single shallow scratch across the cheek would keep it out of a higher MS grade, even without the "mold".
It's still SILVER.

As moxking pointed out, acetone may remove it, but it's not going to be worth very much. With all of the areas that look like finger prints or smears, I'm wondering if the substance is dried silver polish or cleaner. I have a Indian Head cent that someone polished to a "mirror shine!" It has areas around the letters that look like it has haze from dried polish.

I agree those more or less parallel bands on the second one look line finger prints. Though I would not have expected them to show white. Never pays to look too closely at your coins Numerous coins of mine show up a little bit of verdigris here and there when I photograph them, which I never noticed just admiring them with the unaided eye.

In the full pictures you posted in the other thread it is pretty clear it is covered in prints. If you already soaked it, then they are etched in If I had to guess what the white stuff is, I'd lean toward something acetone would make a sludge, like athletic tape, but I really don't know and I don't think it matters with all the finger prints.

Thank you very much for all your input! This one will get sold for the melt value I guess. :)
