While trying to attribute a keeper grainy patina coin of Romulus, the son of Maxentius, I think I just found a tired coin striker. Just my opinion here. This looks like not a hard-double strike, but a strike, and then a soft second strike. Let me know what you see. Look at his nose and go back a bit- rim at about 11 o'clock on obverse- and a bit of a bounce on the reverse. Also. I didn't clean this one so I don't know what it looked like coming out of the ground. Maybe all just weathering- 24mm and 5.4 grams. I see on the reverse MOSTP in ex. No Columns. The shape of the mouth and around the eye seems slightly different... perhaps it could be over struck from a Maxentius temple type follis? Report this Post to the Staff
