Now how this got mixed into a job lot, I will never know.

Kyme, Aeolis
AR Trihemiobol (12mm, 1.34g)
Eagle head left, KY before
Incuse textured quadrupartite "Mill-sail"
Unpublished; apparently unique

Ex Roma 31/115 (£1,300; unsold) https://www.sixbid.com/browse.html?...&lot=2633719
Ex Roma 40/165 (£220) https://www.sixbid.com/browse.html?...&lot=3443313
Ex Leu 4/1461

Unique-Archaic-Trihemiobol-From-Kyme,-Aeolis

The Hemiobols of this type are relatively common. This appears to be the only example of a trihemiobol currently known.

And to think I almost put it up on ebay with a 99 cent start bid - Always do your homework!

So, if I understand correctly, the links are to this exact coin?

So, somebody dropped upwards of $300 for this coin last October, then it shows up in an inexpensive lot?

Surely it was a mistake, and you will return it (reminiscent of that thread where someone posed the question about how to guilty to feel winning an auction for $0.06 with free shipping).

Thanks all.

@tdziemia, that's exactly right. I suppose this was an attempt to flip the coin, but exactly how a $300 coin was consigned and ended up in an unattributed job lot is beyond my comprehension.

The lot was certainly not cheap (in fact it nearly maxed out my credit card) but the coins averaged out to about $35; nearly all of the coins in the lot are $50-100 coins. Several (especially this and the Cilicia obols) are valuable enough I don't really know how to realize their potential. Maybe this one will show up at a future CNG or Heritage auction?

I'm just jealous .

I only recently tried my first couple of shots at buying small lots for some coins I wanted, and selling off the rest (certainly not planning to make a profit ... just cut my costs).

Jury is still out. I expect the experience will give me an appreciation of collectors like you with a keener eye!
