I wonder if any one noticed the jump in price for the 1880 Shield nickel. I thought I had it listed in the Red Book for 3,000 in MS-60 in my older edition but noticed it jumped to 10,000 MS-60 in the latest Red Book 2019 Edition. Only 16,000 minted so might be a good reason. Odd thing is a Proof, PF-63 is listed as 500.

Forget the Red Book for pricing.
Find results from one of the big auction houses: Stacks, Heritage, etc.

Coin Dealer Newsletter ("gray sheets") is the gold standard for wholesale pricing (https://www.greysheet.com/). Red Book tends to be a multiple of that, ostensibly to derive a "retail pricing", but in the real world high end coin prices don't scale that way. I usually buy high end slabbed coins at only a very slight premium to gray sheet, not the +50% type prices in Red Book.

After over 60 years of coin collecting I well know all that. I was just pointing out what might be an error or just an adjustment.

That's an interesting observation just_carl. Curiously, Coin World does not indicate a value for the 1880 in MS-60, just a dash "-". The RedBook might reflect that prices have changed, maybe from a recent auction. I'm not sure how likely that is though since the Shield nickel series is the black sheep of the nineteenth century and are seriously undervalued compared to their rarity.

That's because PF-63 1880 Shield nickels are a LOT more common than MS 1880 Shield nickels. Almost no MS piece exist, but there are a lot of surviving proofs.(And some of the few slabbed MS pieces are actually proofs.)

Wait a minute. I think I was reading PCGS wrong. I think it says $15,000 for MS60!

Good point Conder101.

A agree on that. I have many Nickel collections and really don't like any of them, except Buffalo nickels of course. Liberty Head Nickels too are rather lost in popularity.
And as USID18 pointed out, even larger values.
