IMO possibly an old cleaning. Quote: . Not a coin I'd have any interest in anyways... I can't stand environmentally damaged (aka:toned) coins. to an extent. I find toning is a great way to prove originality, but I really only see it as that. I personally find however that some toned coins are (IMO) overhyped by the market. To where it seems certain coins are only seen for their toning and nothing else. I can understand the interest, but toning isn't something I find interesting, let alone something I would grade higher for "eye appeal" points or pay a premium for.

Quote: .There's only one way to answer this question definitively......... Eat the coin to see if it has a "chemically" flavour or not? Edit: I forgot this wasn't my 500th post...

Oh, just realized no one mentioned that this coin was at auction on ebay. The pictures provided were the sellers photos.

I deal with the seller, so I already had a bid on this coin by the time I even read it.

I think it had a light old cleaning and pleasant retoned- all that chatter in front of AMERICA is not 'flow lines' and I don't think circulation produces those type of hairlines.
But it's a moot point. Imo market acceptable, would holder and I like the look.
Hope it looks as good or better when you get it - and please post your pics here!

Quote: all that chatter in front of AMERICA is not 'flow lines' What's directly in front of it is. Its the exact same in front of ONE and UNITED and on the obverse too. The handful of field marks are almost certainly highly exaggerated at that magnification. Cleaning hairlines go over large areas in large amounts. If they are there the pictures aren't showing them.

Flow lines are NOT hairlines. Flow lines are caused by metal flow. Hairlines are caused by circulation and/or cleaning. I see a few light scratches in front of AMERICA, but nothing else to make me think this one has been cleaned. Although I think the coin has not been cleaned, I'll wait for coinlover1899 to tell us what it actually looks like in hand.
