I have quite a few pieces of eight but more from the late 1700's to the 1800's this one has a smooth edge. not the dots and dashes I'm usually seeing
I think it's a fake. although it's not magnetic
any thoughts?

Magnet aside, the other basic test to initially perform is to weigh it. But frankly it just looks all wrong to my eye.

it's the right weight at 27 grams but it's the edge that is smooth that bothers me. thank you for the opinion

It is a replica.
In 1618 it was impossible to make coins like that, to round.
The real ones were hand struck....

I have several similar types in cupper nickel
