I'm not sure what else to describe this as or what it is exactly that was over struck. The minor patina made me thing a 2nd unum and more, but in light of another shot where the patina marked lettering is merely shown in a different light, you see "HN" something or other. It isn't indentations and there appears to be more unrecognizable to me on other areas of the reverse. The front is normal with no signs of damage in the slightest. Any ideas what this may be?

@American-pickertn, text can be transferred to a coin's surface in the form of differential toning (e.g. if stored in Whitman folders for a long time), but I'm pretty sure that something else is at work on your coin. Rather, I'm thinking that this is part of a fingerprint that looks a little bit like those two letters. It is kinda odd-looking though.

Looks more like fingerprints on the coin. They turn the color darker and they can't be removed. (Well, not with out removing the orignal surface)

Those are aging fingerprints.

These are just fingerprints unfortunately. Once they get permanently stained onto the surfaces of the coin, you can't get them off. They'll stay on there forever.
