*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ****** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***I have a 1946-D Walking Liberty half that is a Doubled Die REV. The PCGS slab label is mistaken b/c is does not list this half is a doubled die. Three questions: 1. Do people who enjoy slabs like error slabs like this? Or is it just typical value of a PCGS AU48 DDR for this date? I would hate to crack it out when it might be something that area of the hobby would find a "cool" item b/c of the error. 2. Do you have to pay extra for DDR attribution and so maybe the one who paid for the service decided not to get it labeled as such? I don't understand how three trained graders could all miss this (especially this DDR) if the company's description of their grading process is as meticulous as they say. This very obvious doubling is one of my favorites b/c until you get used to seeing it, the DDR can make you think your eyes are not focusing properly.

the coin was slabbed as it was submitted, unless it is submitted, as a DDR, it will not get designated as such..

Thanks for this info and it explains a lot. I admit I am surprised the graders don't add this to the label for information/accuracy sake. But company policy is company policy. I have to wonder what they think when they do notice something like this and know it will not be labeled as such. I would be too OCD in this area to be able not to label it as such .

I added it, but you should include the date, mintmark, and the denomination in your titles.

Quote:2. Do you have to pay extra for DDR attribution and so maybe the one who paid for the service decided not to get it labeled as such? That's exactly what happened or the submitter just wasn't aware that it was. It's not actually an error slab, it's just that the initial submitter didn't pay for the attribution services and it is a variety that isn't automatically put on the label. Certain things like FBL, FH, FB, FT are automatic attributions that are added but things like this, or Overton numbers ect aren't automatic and you have to pay for the variety services for it. There's no real slab error premium for something where a variety just wasn't selected during submission

Thanks for this info and education. I very much appreciate it. . I will not crack it out anyway now b/c I just got an even nicer one. So I likely will sell this and let its next owner decide what he/she prefers.

Thanks for the opinion Just Carl, but I this an example of the DDR featured at: http://varietyvista.com/10%20Walkin...6PDDR001.htmMy guess is that b/c the doubling is so dramatic on a flat area (feather surfaces) of the design that the legit doubling is shelf-like in these areas?

If it is actually the DDR check into prices for those. It very well may be worth it to have it reslabed with the variety on it or to look into VarSlab services. http://www.varslab.com/Not sure if he would do those but I believe he will do a little more than he advertises. I know some of the DDRs do have a pretty significant premium and could put some more money in your pocket looking into the options
