I seem to find coins in pairs when I do happen to find a variety I'm looking for. I found a nice one of these last year EF-45 by mistake and now know the key markers to look for here is my second one not as nice as the first but that was luck on my part. I'll show the Reverse and Obverse of the coin as well as the markers to look for.

Happy Hunting.

Is there a D/C at leaf 13 on yours or is that some fiber?

That's a nice find papeldog!

In my opinion the type 2 is scarcer than the type 1.

okie, the area at leaf 13 is a scratch and also leaf 15 is a scratch no die cracks anywhere that I can find but its a poorer grade I would guess in fine condition. But my other one has no die cracks on the Reverse or Obverse either and its a better grade.

Thanks Phil I'm just lucky when it comes to treasure hunting I look everywhere I found this one in Cyprus of all places so no one bidding against me for it.

Yes sorry okie, you got a good eye for key markers that is a die crack between leaf 5+6 and I checked my other one and it has a small crack just starting between leaf 5+6 at the denticles from the outer rim

Yes the 5's are nicely re-punched that shows up nice, for me though the main key marker is the vertical line at the base of leaf 9 and leaf 2 I believe this Reverse is the only one with this.

I don't see any vertical line at 9 and there are a number of Reverses that have the same vine break at leaf 2

I mean the leaf 9 is a one only as far as I know okie, and leaf 2 is the only one that goes with this leaf 9. I'm not sure what caused the crack or tool mark maybe at leaf 9 ?

Here is a closeup photo of the line across the junction of the stem entering leaf 9. As far as I know, there is no other reverse die with this feature. It is the best way to ID the PC59-421. It shows up pretty well even on low grade coins.

papeldog, can you post a closeup photo of the die crack at leaf 5-6 that okie mentioned. This isn't shown in the Haxby catalog, so it is probably a later die state that's not listed yet.

Okie, do you have any of these you could check for that die crack?

I have been unable to find my type 2 .. when we had a flood last year, I stuck things away in places I evidently can't find or remember. I did find my 2 type 1's, but not the 2.

Thanks Phil, for posting a better picture of leaf 9 it is easy to pick out once it is known, maybe more will show up with good pictures for everyone to see and know what to look for.

The first picture of the die crack at leaf 5+6 is the coin in this post, the second picture of the die crack at leaf 5+6 is my other coin but the die crack is just starting and can see it faintly on this one.

Thanks for checking Okie. I hope it turns up.

Thanks for the nice photos papeldog. Looks like new die states 2 and 3 for the I4 reverse!
