That is a pretty gross looking coin. We'll see what the pros think

I have no idea on what happen to your coin. It's very strange that it came from a OBW BU roll of 2018 P LSC's.

Yea it is very odd. If it were in a circulated roll it would be an easy PMD call

I would think something corrosive may have gotten on the planchet while it was in the rinse process and dried up corroding the Lam I also like to hear from others .

It almost looks like some lubricating grease got on the unstruck planchet. Just the only good guess I have. :-)

I'm almost thinking grease too. Maybe the kind that makes the little spots on uncirculated coins.

Although, I would like to know for sure what happened though. It looks like grease, but who knows.

probably a blank planchet that spent some time on the floor, and got a bunch of crud on it,and environmental damage, then someone eventually found it and threw it back in the hopper.

Silverwolf, that sounds like a good possible explanation!

Looks like an ink spillage that dried on that coin . Very strange indeed .

Employees are not supposed to pick up planchets or coins that are laying on the floor just for the reason that they might get tossed into the wrong place. Anything on the floor gets swept up and sent to the scrap. The planchet had something on it that has corroded the coin. Whether it got on it before or after it was struck I don't know, but it doesn't really matter because it is still a corroded coin.
