Wanted to get some opinions about the potential star quality of this coin. Help me decide if it deserves designation review. Dont know if photo is big enough, but its the best I have right now. Image: 68o.jpg4.25 KB Image: 68r.jpg4.06 KB

Is it clad or silver? Looks like a 1965? Pretty coin.

Very nice
It's possible that the coin might have been artificially toned. Can't say for certain though unless we were to see much higher quality pics

Coin is not artificially toned, it is already graded ms67 by NGC, but in an older holder. It is a 1968 P.

I agree for $10 bucks, I might finally figure out what to look for in a star quality dime. Thanks for all the comments and I will let you know!

It is my understanding that for a * designation for toning there have to be a number of distinct bands of color. It would be interesting to see what they say.

Coin has been received by NGC and has been "scheduled for grading". Hopefully, I will be able to update the forum in a few days. I also asked them to explain why it didnt qualify for the star. Stay posted!!

How would you know it didn't get a star if it has yet to be graded?

Thanks alot for the scare! I dont know if I expect it to get the designation, but I would really love to know what the graders are looking for. It is so subjective and what I have read, all the graders have to agree on the designation unanimously. If anyone disagrees, then it loses it. It is a really pretty coin, much better than the tiny photos that I posted. It has 3 rings in yellow, green and blue. It is also very close to FT designation, but weak on the right lower band and I think it will miss it. Will see in a few days.
