I had a theory on this particular die. Since the die was polished, resulting in the lost portion of the foreleg, maybe other high point areas of that die suffered some detail loss. Maybe that would explain why a normal 1937 D has the E Pluribus Unum touching the back and on these it is not? Maybe that is why the back leg looks almost crippled and weak? Maybe the high point of the horn on the 3 legger also suffer some loss as well?
Comparing to others on
ebay that are slabbed at VF25, mine beats them by a long shot and at least it didn't come back as cleaned or scratched. It's genuine.
The prices they sell for doesn't jump a whole lot in the mid-range grades anyway, so it's the coin that matters and not the grade. I do think if I cracked it out and sent it to NGC it would get at least VF35 but I am kind of over the disappointing opinion a couple weeks later. I still like my 3 legger. I still like all the coins I submitted regardless of what they graded. That's why I sent them in in the first place.
