Willburton, not trying to be snarky, but did you look at the link? It is the glossary and coin info sections. It describes the different styles/materials/weights used on the early years of the IHs. They went from the one year design 1859 CuNi, then 1860-64 CuNi w/shield, then the cahange to bronze in 1865. The CuNi's were 4.67g, and actually were thicker.

And BTW, I'm a whole lot older than you be I bet, age ain't no factor!

Thanks and I know age isn't a factor I just don't go online. I took the time and looked it up. Now I know, I just ask on here because I feel like people want to answer your question. I know you've answered a lot of mine. Many I could have easily looked up and come to a conclusion on my own.

Wilburton-
Nobody minds answering questions and helping but part of being a numismatist
is to try to identify things yourself, not having someone do it for you. That is part
of the learning process the CCF tries to provide.
By your own admission you could have easily looked up the answers yourself.
If you come upon a problem that you can't figure out, then by all means post your
question.

I'll figure it out myself from here on out thanks guys it's been great. I've learned a lot

I do this for fun not because a BIE error or a spike head cent is worth anything I just like to ask questions. I'll do less of that now.

1856 to 1864
Weight: 4.666 grams
Tolerance: 0.259 grams
Diameter: 19.30 mm
Composition: 88 Cu, 12 Ni

More food for thought.

Maybe wrong, but CCF coin facts does not currently include tolerances. The above info the way I read it is from another reference. Thanks, Doug.

I'm glad that you ask questions! There's nothing wrong with asking. That's how we all learn on here!
