Sorry, I should give more info on this, as I put it in the wrong forum. I'm wondering if this 7 Mace and 2 Candareens Silver Coin is genuine or a fake? It has the right weight and size. I have heard that sometimes the counterfeiters use silver, so I really appreciate any help you can provide in this. Regards

I know you say it has the right size and weight, but just out of curiosity how do the measures compare to 39.25mm dia, 2.5mm thickness, and 26.8 grams?

I'll get the exact measurements as soon as I get home tonight, The weight cane in at 26.7, I measured it awhile back and at that time I thought it met all the requirement as I understood them. Just been so long ago. I found your site and there was a topic, much like mine and folks posted pics of Chinese silver coins for verification, (none of them came out real!), so I dug imine out to get your opinions. Regards

Just as a side note I just completed a month long project of documenting 25 Chinese coins that are supposed to be silver, but none in the lot are. Density testing can be a smoking gun or tell all test, but it is not very available to a lot of people with questions. Maybe I might think about starting some sort of verifying business and I will test and report results to the curious owners of supposedly Chinese silver coins. I'll have to think about that. I guess it would not draw any paying customers even though I would charge only $5 for testing and report or $10 for testing, report and photos. Since most Chinese fakes are worth close to nothing, I doubt anyone would really be curious enough to actually be a customer and submit coins. I have spent thousands to outfit my shop with good equipment for such a purpose, but I imagine most infrequent holders of questionable coins would not do that.

Right at 39mm and tiniest bit shy of 2.5, I do note the reeding is worn some. Hopefully the photo will show how much.

Very close to the right size if true, but the measuring tool and scale doesn't look right to me. There are a number of home tests to see if it is silver or not.

I had to use the crop tool here to get ithe photos sized right. What tests can I do at home to be sure?

We did all the tests, except the bleach test M we were really blown away to watch the ice literally boil on the surface!! Definitely silver, I have silver and testing chemicals, but know better. Than to damage the coin I'm sure it's sikver, but would like more verification that it is genuin? Regards, Stephen

If your coin really is silver that is refreshing. So many of these we see here aren't silver at all. If it was my coin, I'd first test it to see if it was dia-magnetic. And if it was I would then test density. I wish there was some simple way I could get my hands on some of these coins in question, test them, and then return to the owner with a report.
