Picked it up at bullion price. Curious if there's any numismatic value. NGC, nor any place else, has mintage numbers for 1968. Wondering if I should get this graded? Is it worth it? What do you all think of these modern Chilean bullion coins? Thanks all.

I found it tough to get any answers (mintage for example) from researching NGC, CoinArchives, etc. The NGC table suggests it is a common date, but ... The only example of this coin at auction I could find was an MS64 example in the Sept. 2012 Goldberg auction, but I couldnt find the price realized. For reference, the spot price back then was approaching to peak of that bubble, around $1750/oz at the time of the auction, so be careful how you interpret the sale price if you can find it. https://www.sixbid.com/browse.html?...5&lot=464174There is a 1958 up for sale in the current Goldberg auction: https://www.sixbid.com/browse.html?...5&lot=464174As for your last question ... I find gold coins with "classic" designs (classic is of course relative for modern countries like Chile) very attractive. SO I think that's a great coin. Fortunately I was blessed with the gift of self-control when it comes to opening my wallet, or I would be living in a shack with lots of really nice coins around me.

@yellow88, it may be just the light, but it seems to have a light polishing/ cleaning. My older Krause does not give the mintage numbers but values it as bullion for XF or less.
In this case, I do not see that grading/ slabbing is going to increase the value at all.
That being said, I think that I would have been tempted to buy it at bullion unless the cleaning was very noticeable.

Thank you all.
I was unaware Chile has been producing a variety of modern gold coins for about the last 90 years are so. And most as bullion not "special editions"/"proofs" etc.
18.31 grams of pure shiny for $720 ain't bad.
I think they're attractive and there's different sizes and designs to choose from. As long as I can by within 5% of spot it's all good. I just don't see many of them in my neck of the woods.
oriole- Very valid point you brought up. The lighting and camera settings created that polished look but the coin fortunately has bee.

I too, believe this piece has been polished. I also see elements of a clash, most images show it in varying degrees.
I just have a prob w/the design coming off the horses back.

fioti- So I can gain from your knowledge in order to better educate myself, regarding this particular coin, would you mind defining and describing when you say "elements of a clash", how it is shown, and the prob with the design on the horse's back?
I certainly would appreciate it.

Can we see a couple more photos with different lighting angle. Too hard to judge from these.

Thank you again for all the assistance. It certainly makes a fun (and unusual, for me at least) addition to my modest collection.
When I have a moment I'll post some new pics with varied lighting for grins and giggles.
