This might be a basic question but I can't seem to find an answer anywhere.
Does anyone know what the difference is between "OO" and "NO" in Austrian notgeld listings?
And do all Austrian notgeld pieces fall under one or the other?
Thanks!

I am not 100% certain but have a recollection of reading something about those abbreviations. I think they are abbreviations for provinces in Austria "OO" = Oberostereich "NO" = Niederostereich.
Take the spelling errors with a grain of salt. Someone more familiar with Notgeld than I should be along to give a more complete answer to you.

Scopru is correct.
Oberosterreich is Upper Austria. Niederosterreich is Lower Austria.

B the way, 'Notgeld' means 'emergency money' and that was issued in lots of countries during other conflicts or periods of instability.

Oh. My. Heavens. Good thing I'm moving into a larger house that has more space for bookshelves. My wife is going to kill me.

For the record, most Austrian notgeld is not really very attractive and is worth less than any other country, especially Germany. Exceptions exist, but the general rule is there.

I decided recently on German notgeld as a collecting interest, very pleased with that choice. The Danish material is a corollary, as we seem to have come from the area where some wars were fought between Germany and Denmark over sovereign status, and plebescites following the Great War.
Just walked right buy the Austrian, it wasn't interesting, to me. If you don't like it, don't collect it.

The comments about Austrian Notgeld are quite true. They rarely had anything other than some rather boring looking notes with muted colors. One of the more attractive sets is from Gemeinde Bruck in Pinzgau. While I mostly collect notgeld on a "hey that's neat" criteria, I do keep a lookout for Christmas/religious themes and a Hallowe'en (yes, I'm old enough to use the apostrophe) or spooky themes. Germany fits the bill big time in those categories, but Austria had a must have set in the Christmas theme... and I later found out that the set has a Krampus note as well. Haven't seen the movie yet, but I got the notgeld! Easily the most colorful Austrian Notgeld I have. But there is just sooo much neat notgeld, that I've limited myself to just those very special pieces I would really hate to not have in my collection. BTW, while looking for notgeld, don't forget to check out apcpapercollect.com - if you find one elsewhere that's a bit high priced, check that site out. They usually have it considerably cheaper.
