This radiate of Constantius I Chlorus sold for $71 with six different bidders going for it. It's not a rare coin and not in an extremely high grade, although it is attractive and it does have a nice brown patina.

Bidding war or am I missing something about the coin?

I believe ebay has made it hard to see the item once the bidding is over. Not sure why they have done this but I have lost many auctions recently and when I go back to check bids the item has disappeared.

The bidding record shows it sat at $5.50 with a few hours to go when someone bid $7
This was followed an hour later by a bidder with an impressive feedback score (12,000 +) who raised the bid to $7.50 with a whopping bid of $70
Of course none of the others would know anything except that the current bid stood at $7.50 !
Lastly some silly person decided they really really liked the coin and shot the moon which sent it to $71
I would bet money that they 'soiled' themselves and are currently trying to weasel out of the sale
I think two people liked the coin and assumed they could guarantee a win by bidding ridiculously high
Mr $70 probably is getting a good laugh

Nice curiassed bust though !
But I wonder why Mssr "Pavlov" who is shipping from the Netherlands with a feedback score of "deux" is listing this on the US ebay ?
Strange
Probably a Russian money laundering operation

I saw that too and thought it might be the key
But I think it may only have been the motivating factor and not the real reason

Did some searching and a H gamma seems to go for around 50-70$ on vcoins, but the H delta at 150-200$

Edit...More searching....And looking at what has been sold and is out there at the moment,in my humble opinion, I think this person new exactly what he was buying, maybe a collector of the officinas, and he got it for a reasonable price.....Paul

Thanks for the responses.

I don't like the new ebay system where an auction suddenly disappears when it ends, and unless you find the link to the original listing you won't know where it was.

Paul;

I really don't like the fact the seller just switched his ebay ID. (Until he has 10 feedbacks you can't see who he was before and he does not even have 10 feedbacks yet.) So that is a red flag right there.
